PM meets with leaders on ASEAN Summit sidelines

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with Myanmar’s President Thein Sein and and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on the sidelines of the 24th ASEAN Summit on May 11 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

PM Dung and President Thein Sein expressed their pleasure at the fine developments of the relations between the two countries over the past time.

President Thein Sein thanked Viet Nam for the latter’s active support for Myanmar as the ASEAN Chair in 2014, affirmed that his country always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Viet Nam.

Both sides agreed to enhance the exchange of delegations and high-level contacts, create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in Myanmar, especially in the fields of oil and gas, banking and tourism.

The two countries will strive to lift up the two-way trade value to US$500 million by 2015, convene the 8th meeting of the joint committee for bilateral cooperation in Myanmar and the 7th political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries.

The two leaders spoke highly of good cooperation of the two countries at regional and international forums, especially the regional mechanisms like ACMECS, CLMV, GMS, EWEC.

Both sides agreed to coordinate with other ASEAN member states to further strengthen solidarity and ASEAN Community building by 2015, and share common voice over regional and international issues, including the East Sea issue.

In his meeting with the Indonesian President, PM Dung congratulated Indonesia on the success of his country’s recent legislative election.

The Vietnamese PM highly valued President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s role in pushing the establishment of the Viet Nam-Indonesia strategic partnership in June last year.

The two leaders agreed to effectively realize the joint action plan for the period 2014-2018, convene the second meeting of the Joint Committee on bilateral cooperation in 2014, and prepare well for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2015.

They expressed their pleasures at the close cooperation at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN and the United Nations; affirmed to work closely with other ASEAN member states to realize the target of a unified ASEAN Community which maintain its central role in the regional cooperation mechanisms.

For the recent developments in the East Sea, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono voiced his concern over the rising tensions in the East Sea and said all disputes must be settled peacefully.

Indonesia is willing to coordinate with Viet Nam and relevant parties to find suitable solutions to this issue, the Indonesian President affirmed./.
