At the meeting, PM Phuc treasured the sentiments extended by the King and royal family to Viet Nam as well as to the Viet Nam-Belgium relations, inviting the King to visit Viet Nam.

The Government chief briefed the host about the outcomes of his talks with Belgian counterpart Charles Michel, emphasizing Viet Nam attaches importance to cooperation with Belgium.

King Phillippe welcomed PM Phuc to Belgium on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties, expressing his special sentiments to Vietnamese people.

The Belgian King, who visited Viet Nam for the first time in 1994, affirmed Belgium treasures ties with Viet Nam and pledged to support Viet Nam’s efforts in climate change adaptation.

The two leaders were glad that the bilateral relationship has advanced positively across fields, especially trade and investment. They vowed to further strengthen cooperation in such fields like high-tech agriculture, green technology, healthcare, and education.

The same day, PM Phuc had a meeting with Steven Vanackere, former Belgian Foreign Minister and head of a group of parliamentarians from the Flemish Christian Democratic Party, who has made great contributions to the growth of the Viet Nam-Belgium relationship.

PM Phuc, who is on an official visit to Belgium, told Vanackere that Viet Nam and Belgium have agreed on a number of measures to strengthen their cooperation in the future, including the hastening of the signing of a free trade agreement between Viet Nam and the EU.

Noting that the former Belgian minister has rich experience in the field, the PM expressed his hope to receive support and cooperation from Vanackere.

For his part, Vanackere affirmed that he is willing to assist Vietnam, adding that as a country with certain influences in the EU, Belgium has a strong voice regarding the signing of the deal.

The former official asserted that Viet Nam and Belgium boast great potential to further promote their partnership. He said Belgian enterprises are strong in seaports and logistics, which makes them suitable partners to Viet Nam.
