PM meets with Japanese counterpart in Malaysia

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on November 20 met with Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the 27th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At the meeting, the two PMs expressed their pleasure at the fine development of the two nations’ strategic partnership relations.

They exchanged specific measures to launch high-level agreements between the two sides, pledging to strengthen the investment and trade ties, accelerate the implementation of the Mid and Long-term Joint Vision on Agricultural Cooperation and enhance cooperation in nuclear energy, especially the construction of the Ninh Thuận 2 Nuclear Power Plant.

The two leaders also agreed to launch the Viet Nam-Japan University project next year.

PM Shinzo Abe announced the provision of ¥172 billion in official development assistance (ODA) for three projects, namely the Metro Line No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant and the Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Project, sending the total funding for Viet Nam to US$2.5 billion in this fiscal year.

The two PMs also agreed to continue fostering close cooperation at multi-lateral forums and international cooperative mechanisms, accelerating the ratification and implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and pushing for agreements at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, highlighting the importance of ensuring peace, freedom, security and safety of navigation and aviation in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, of serious implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) as well as the conclusion of a Code of Conduct for the East Sea.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung invited the Japanese PM to visit Viet Nam and the latter accepted.
