PM meets European leaders at ASEM-10

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung held bilateral meetings with leaders of several European countries on the sidelines of the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 10) in Milan, Italy, on October 16-17.

At his meeting with French President Francois Hollande, the two sides highly valued achievements in bilateral relations, the successful organization of the Viet Nam-France Year 2013-2014 and the 40thanniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

They agreed to exchange delegations at all levels and enhance the Strategic Partnership in economics, trade, investment, national defense and security, high-technology, infrastructure, energy, transport, aviation, health care, agriculture, food processing and the environment.

They committed to closely coordinating in organizing the 21st Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Paris in 2015.

The French President highlighted the importance of guaranteeing peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific, including the guaranty of marine peace, security, safety and freedom, dealing with conflicts through dialogues and peaceful measures in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Italian counterpart Matteo Renzi were unanimous in enhancing the bilateral relationship and creating favorable conditions for businesses to strengthen investment links, striving to reach a two-way trade turnover of US$5 billion by 2015.

The two PMs proposed the two sides maintain and launch consultancy mechanisms between ministries and agencies, especially the organization of the first session of the Viet Nam-Italy Joint Committee on economic cooperation and the first deputy ministerial strategic dialogue.

Italy confirmed to advocate the relationship between Viet Nam and the EU, including the EU's ratification of the EU-Viet Nam Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA), its recognition of Viet Nam's market economy and the completion of the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.

In the meeting with Swedish PM Stefan Löfven, PM Dung applauded on the Official Development Assistance (ODA) from Sweden, especially for health care, climate change and gender equality.

He proposed Ireland maintain its ODA for Viet Nam while talking to Irish PM Enda Kenny, reaching an agreement to strengthen cooperation in education, climate change and agriculture.

The Irish PM asserted the readiness to share experience with Viet Nam in the UN’s peacekeeping activities.

PM Dung and Finish PM Alexander Stubb consented to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels and launch effectively development projects till 2016 and identified cooperative orientations in the future.

The Vietnamese PM also held bilateral meetings with leaders of Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Australia.

At these meetings, the PM suggested these nations soon approve the PCA and complete the FTA with Viet Nam.
