PM leaves for 12th ASEM, P4G Summits

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Spouse left Ha Noi on Sunday for the 12th ASEM Summit in Belgium and the Partnering Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Denmark.

On the occasion, PM Phuc will pay official visits to Austria, Belgium, Denmark. He will also have working visit to the European Union.

ASEM summit 2018

The ASEM summit 2018 will bring together heads of state or governments of 51 European and Asian countries, representatives of the European Union, the ASEAN Secretary General, European Council President, Donald Tusk will chair the summit. European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker will also represent the EU at the summit.

Discussions will focus on the theme "Europe and Asia: global partners for global challenges".

Leaders will seek to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two continents on a wide range of areas, including: trade and investment, connectivity, sustainable development and climate, security challenges such as terrorism, non-proliferation, cyber-security, irregular migration.

Viet Nam joined ASEM in 1996 and has always been a dynamic and responsible member of the forum.

P4G Copenhagen Summit 2018

The first P4G Summit will take place in Copenhagen 19-20 October 2018. At the P4G Copenhagen Summit, Denmark will gather Heads of States and Government, leaders of international organizations, businesses, academia, and the civil society to form a powerful coalition for delivering on the sustainable development goals through innovative partnerships.

P4G will hold summits biannually to scale partnerships and create political attention about the need for partnerships to reach the SDGs. Partner countries take turns hosting the summit.

P4G was officially launched in September 2017 by the governments of Denmark, Chile, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, and Viet Nam. 

Besides the partner countries, non-profit organizations such as the Global Green Growth Institute, World Resources Institute, World Economic Forum and C40 Cities, are also P4G partners. P4G is increasing the partner circle with new countries and organizations.

Furthermore, P4G is in close dialogue with Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and South Africa on possible membership.

Internationally, P4G is based in a Secretariat in Washington, and nationally, in platforms in the various partner countries. The national platforms will secure the involvement of relevant businesses, authorities, and civil society organizations.

The Danish P4G national platform will be based in State of Green, which will secure a wide Danish involvement from the private sector, research community, organizations, municipalities, think tanks, civil society and state authorities.

Fostering relations with Austria, Belgium, Demark and EU

Austria was one of the first European countries to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam, in 1972.

The bilateral relationship has been growing across various fields through regular exchanges of high-level visits and contacts and close coordination and support at multilateral forums like the United Nations, ASEM, ASEAN-EU.

Bilateral trade reached over US$4 billion in 2017, up 42% from the previous years.

Austria is the 6th biggest European importer of Vietnamese products, ranking 43th out of 119 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam with 31 projects worth US$143.9 million.

Viet Nam and Belgium set up diplomatic ties in 1973.

Belgium is the 7th biggest importer of Vietnamese products after Germany, the Netherlands, UK, Italy, France, Spain and Austria.

Belgian investors have poured US$ 595 million in 62 projects, focusing on processing industry.

The European country offers around 2 million annually and is home to nearly 300 Vietnamese students.

Viet Nam and Demark established diplomatic relations in 1971 and lifted up the bilateral ties to strategic partnership in 2013.

The two-way trade volume reached US$ 664.6 million last year. Demark is the 26th biggest foreign investor in Viet Nam with 132 projects worth over US$686 million.

Denmark is the biggest sponsor of Viet Nam in climate change adaptation with total capital of up to 40 million.

Viet Nam and the EU officially established diplomatic relations in 1990 and six years latter the EU launched representative mission in Ha Noi.

Last year, the EU is the 3rd biggest trade partner of Viet Nam after China and the US and the 5th biggest foreign investor after the Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Singapore.

The EU is also one of the biggest sponsors of Viet Nam./.
