The PM was accompanied by Minister-Chairman of the Office of Government Vũ Đức Đam, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyễn Minh Quang, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

By attending the Summit, Việt Nam hopes to contribute to beefing up the Mekong-Japan cooperation, consolidate ties with sub-regional Mekong member states and boost the Việt Nam-Japan Strategic Partnership.

During his stay in Tokyo, PM Dũng will hold talks with Japanese counterpart Noda Yoshihiko, and  meet with representatives from the Keidanren, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and business corporations.

PM Dũng is expected to deliver a speech on cooperative orientations between Mekong and Japan in the new period and Việt Nam’s priorities on sustainable management and usage of water resources of the Mekong river.

Since the Summit was established in 2007, Việt Nam has made practical contributions to the framework by implementing important projects involving the construction of Lạch Huyện deep-water port in the northern city of Hải Phòng, the Mekong-Japan vocational training center, the Sub-Regional Logistic Training Center, risk management for customs in the Mekong region and highways. The cooperation has contributed to reinforcing mutual confidence between Việt Nam and Japan and other Mekong countries.

The 4th Mekong-Japan Summit is scheduled on April 20-21 to review the implementation of the Mekong-Japan Action Plan 63, the Mekong-Japan Economic and Industrial Cooperation Initiative, the Initiative on “a Decade toward the Green Mekong” and talk about orientations and ways to speed up cooperation in the 2013-2015 period.

Mekong-Japan leaders are expected to pass the Tokyo Strategy which will forge a new foundation for the Mekong-Japan cooperation in the new phase, boost regional connectivity and ensure human and environmental security./.
