PM has high expectations of HCMC Hi-Tech Park

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested the Management Board of the HCMC Hi-Tech Park attract high-tech groups to invest in and open research centers and convert the Park into a center of innovation and renovation.

PM Phuc attended the 15th anniversary of the establishment of HCMC High Tech Park (2002-2017) on October 29 in HCMC.

The event also drew the attendance of Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, former Party and State leaders, ministerial and sectorial leaders, and foreign and international organization representatives. 

The HCMC High-Tech Park was founded 15 years ago, targeting to attract foreign investment; mobilize resources on science and technology; effectively connect production, research, and technology transfer; attract high-quality human resources. 

Head of the HCMC Hi-Tech Park Management Board Le Hoai Quoc reported that so far the HCMC Hi-Tech Park has modern and comprehensive infrastructure structure; attracted 128 high-tech projects worth nearly US$ 7 billion. Over ten Hi-tech corporations namely Intel, Microsoft, Samsung, Nodec, Schneider, and Sanofi arrived in the park which generated over 40,000 jobs.

The Park expected to earn nearly US$ 12 billion of revenue in 2017 and strives for US$ 20 billion by 2020.

Addressing the event, Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his hope that the park will become an urban center of hi-tech in the east of HCMC and cooperate with HCMC National University Urban Area, industrial parks, and Thu Thiem urban area.

PM Phuc said that one VND of investment capital poured into the Hi-tech Park stimulated 21 VND of  investment capital in other fields. The figure was expected to rise in the coming years. So far, the HCMC Hi-tech Park has taken the lead of high tech field; initially established scientific urban model. 

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) has brought about abundant opportunities and challenges for the society. PM Phuc was convinced that thanks to intelligence of Vietnamese people and technological and scientific quintessence, Viet Nam would be able to narrow down development gap with the world and make full use of Industry 4.0.

PM Phuc urged the Management Board to renovate mindsets; take dynamic steps to catch up with the epoch trend to become a Silicon valley of the region, even the world-class one.

In addition, the HCMC Hi-tech Park was asked to convert into a large-scale research center in high tech; attract high-quality human power; become an smart urban ecological area, a technological garden; serving to turn HCMC into the first smart urban area in Viet Nam. 

To realize the aforesaid goals, PM Phuc suggested the Ministry of Science and Technology, the HCMC municipal People’s Committee, especially the Hi-tech Park Management Board to make comprehensive assessment of achievements; build specific development strategies and plans in the coming years; uphold competitiveness; and contribute to national development. 

The Hi-tech Park Management Board was urged to perfect mechanisms and policies to attract hi-tech manpower even foreign scientists; strengthen ties with universities and businesses to train human resources; develop innovative centers; and research new technologies. 

On this occasion, PM Phuc also hailed HCMC for a project to open the second Hi-tech park so-called the Science and Technology Park; asking the local authorities to build a transport system which will link the first Hi-tech Park with the second one. 

Finally, PM Phuc affirmed that the Government would continue to craft and issue policies which will facilitate industrial parks especially hi-tech parks to flourish./.
