PM directs building of a roadmap for greenhouse gas emissions reduction

VGP – The PM has assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) to work with relevant agencies to study and assess the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Viet Nam, in order to build an appropriate emissions reduction roadmap, thus contributing to implementing the Paris Agreement.

January 17, 2018 2:25 PM GMT+7

Considering the MONRE’s proposal in regards to the outcomes of its participation in the One Planet Summit in Paris (France), the Government leader assigned the ministry to collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to research the issues of carbon pricing, the development of the carbon emission trading market in Viet Nam, as well as Viet Nam’s participation in the international emission trading market in the future, in line with the common trend of the world.

The PM also asked the MONRE to team up with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the State Bank of Viet Nam to research and recommend suitable financial mechanisms, in order to encourage investment in climate change adaptation operations and mitigate GHG emissions, in accordance with changes in global investment policy.
