VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc left for Bangkok, Thailand on June 15 to attend the 8th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS 8) Summit and the 9th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Viet Nam Summit (CLMV 9), at the invitation of Thai PM Prayut Chan-o-cha and Cambodian PM Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

June 15, 2018 10:13 AM GMT+7

His entourage includes Mai Tien Dung, Minister and head of the Government’s Office; Tran Hong Ha, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Foreign Minister; Cao Quoc Hung, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade; Le Dinh Tho, Deputy Minister of Transport; Le Quang Manh, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; Trinh Thi Thuy, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Nguyen Thi Nghia, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Vu Thi Mai, Deputy Minister of Finance; Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI); Bui Huy Hung, Assistant to the PM; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Hai Bang.

The ACMECS 8 and CLMV 9 take place as the Mekong Sub-region cooperation mechanism continues to see significant advancements, contributing to enhancing a peaceful and stable environment and promoting integration and development in the Mekong River Basin, while Viet Nam’s relations with Mekong countries have been increasingly expanded in an extensive fashion.

After over 15 years of operations, CLMV and ACMECS cooperation has achieved a lot of positive results, contributing to strengthening a peaceful and stable climate and promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation between Mekong countries, and bridging the development gap within ASEAN. Thanks to the extensive economic reforms and the trade liberation and facilitation, the Mekong region has become a region of dynamic development and an important growth engine for ASEAN.

PM Phuc’s participation in the aforementioned events aims to reflect Viet Nam’s respect for ACMECS and CLMV cooperation, while working to enhance Viet Nam’s position in these two forums, and accelerate cooperation in the fields of regional connectivity, water resources, trade, and investment.
