This is one of the measures that PM Phuc figured out while addressing a conference that aims to seek ways to beef up the development of Viet Nam’s supporting industry in the years to come.

The Government chief called on businesses to pay greater attention to research and development activities while assigning the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant ministries to mull over the establishment of research and development centers.

The State Bank of Viet Nam was asked to propose preferential credit policies for priority areas of the supporting industry for the next five to ten years.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and Technology was requested to mull over adjustments to facilitate supporting industry enterprises’ access to the national technology innovation fund.

PM Phuc also asked relevant ministries to finalize mechanisms and policies, particularly those related to tax, land, and credit loans in order to help boost supporting industry.

The Government sets goal to increase the number of supporting industry enterprises to 2,000 by 2030, said PM Phuc, adding that it requires “great will” to achieve the goal despite recent improvements of the supporting industry.

The local content of garments-textiles-footwear and automobile assembly has increased to 40%-45% and 10%-20%, respectively and the ratio of local content in electronics-telecommunication and high-technology sectors is 15% and 5%, respectively.

However, the country’s supporting industry still faces a number of challenges, including low ratio of local content among industries due to limited capacity and skills of human resource, lack of effective policies on private enterprises development, and limited capacity of local supporting industry enterprises./.
