The GMS cooperation initiative was initiated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1992. The GMS members include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, China, and Viet Nam.
The GMS cooperation aims to facilitate mutually beneficial economic development cooperation between Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam, and the two Chinese provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi, whilst developing the GMS into a rapidly developing and prosperous area in the region.
The CLV Development Triangle Area was established in 1999, covering 13 border provinces of the three countries.
