PM calls for storm-readiness measures

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on November 8 chaired a video-teleconference with provincial leaders and relevant agencies to discuss measures to cope with super typhoon Haiyan.

November 08, 2013 4:26 PM GMT+7

Super typhoon Haiyan is forecast to be one of the strongest ones in recent ten years

The super typhoon is heading to Viet Nam with high speed and complicated directions.

Earlier on November 7, the Government chief issued the Notice No. 1816/CĐ-TTg, requesting ministries and agencies concerns to get fully prepared.

By 4am on 9/11, the storm eye will be about 600 kilometers East Northeast of Viet Nam’s Song Tu Tay Island (Truong Sa Islands) with sustained winds of 150-183 km/h. It will then move faster to the direction between West and West Northwest at about 30-35km/h.

Due to the impact of the storm Haiyan, from the night of 8/11, the Eastern area of the East Sea had strong winds of levels 9-10, then increasing to levels 12-13 and up to levels 16-17 in the center.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has dispatched delegations to localities to assist them in protecting dykes, dams and fishing boats.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent the diplomatic notes to the Embassies of China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnamese Embassies at foreign countries, asking them to help Vietnamese fishermen find shelter./.
