The Government chief made the statement at the last regular Cabinet meeting in 2011 in Hà Nội on January 4.

The Government has identified ambitious tasks for 2012, in which inflation curbing, macro-economic stabilization, and proper growth maintenance are placed side by side with economic restructuring, growth model renovation, and improvement of the competitiveness of the national economy.

Economic restructuring and growth model renovation have caught the public’s concerns recently as the issues are considered as the second wave of change in mainstream ideology since 1986 when the renewal process was introduced.

At the meeting, the Cabinet members frankly discussed difficulties and challenges to seek new opportunities for development in 2012. Despite economic hardships, the Government affirmed its determination to pour adequate investment in social welfare.

PM Dũng named a number of shortcomings that need to be addressed in 2012, including low quality of legal documents, poor planning and management of natural resources, pressing environmental pollution and traffic congestion and accidents.

Project seeks improved efficiency of SOEs

Also at the meeting, the Cabinet members deliberated a draft Project on improving the efficiency of State-owned enterprises (SOEs) and a draft Decree on gold management and trading.

Regarding the project, PM Dũng clearly stated that restructuring SOEs solely aims to better their performance so they will be playing the leading role in boosting socio-economic development, stabilizing the macro-economy, securing macro indexes and others.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment will be responsible for collecting comments from ministries and sectors and finalize the project soon.
