PM calls for establishment of public-private forum on climate change in Davos

VGP – Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called for establishment of an open public-private forum on climate change adaptation and marine ecosystem protection while he was addressing the “Meeting of leaders on ocean action agenda” in Davos, Switzerland on January 23 (local time).

The meeting is part of the 2019 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

The forum should be designed to enhance experience sharing, cooperation, technology transfer and engagement of businesses in marine environment protection, the Government chief said.

He urged the World Economic Forum to coordinate with partners to accelerate the formation of a global network on ocean data that could be shared and welcomed the support of the international community for ASEAN’s common position of ensuring security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

The same day, Prime Minister Phuc had bilateral meetings with Nepal’s  Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Director-General of the World Trade Organization Roberto Azevêdo.

Phuc extended congratulations to Sharma Oli upon his re-election as the Prime Minister of Nepal, affirming Viet Nam’s consistent policy of attaching importance to the traditional cooperation with Nepal.

Both sides agreed to continue contacts at all levels, sign an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, and create favorable conditions for their businesses to seek investment opportunities in such fields like telecommunication, energy, and infrastructure among others.

Phuc also asked the Nepalese side to support Viet Nam to win a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in the tenure 2020-2021.

At the meeting with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization Roberto Azevêdo, Phuc said Viet Nam attaches importance to the multilateral trading system.

Meanwhile Roberto Azevêdo expressed said the World Trade Organization stands ready to assist Viet Nam in human resource training for international integration and trade domains./.
