The Government chief stressed the point during the 17th session of the Anti-corruption Central Steering Committee in Hanoi on April 25 to review the fight against corruption in the first quarter of the year and provide guidelines for tasks in the second quarter.

As the Committee Head, the PM underlined the need to accurately and transparently punishing corruption violators and focusing on detection and prevention work.

Preventive measures should be taken effectively via the building and improvement of institution, higher responsibility of party leaders and members, better supervision mechanism, and good education.

PM Dung also urged for quick handling of serious and prolonged corruption cases.

The draft report on anti-corruption in Q1 and orientations for Q2, 2012 indicates that the task was improved.

In Q1, the Government Inspector published outcomes of 11 investigations in big SOEs like the Việt Nam National Oil and Gas Group as well as the military-run telecom giant Viettel. The Government inspectors uncovered the misuse of over VND 32,744.

The law enforcement agencies prosecuted 55 cases with 104 defendants in charges of corruption, up 12.24% in terms of the number of cases and up 8.33% in terms of the number of defendants over the same period last year./.
