Hailing the talks between FM Don Pramudwinai and Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh, PM Phuc asserted Viet Nam’s consistent policy to consolidate and strengthen the Viet Nam-Thailand Strategic Partnership relations.

He suggested the two sides launch the Joint Statement of the third Viet Nam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat, the Action Program to implement the Viet Nam -Thailand Strategic Partnership in the 2014-2018 period and other bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the Viet Nam-Thailand Joint Committee.

To raise the two-way trade turnover to US$20 billion by 2020, the two nations need to take specific measures to effectively realize the Action Plan on trade and investment in the period 2015-2020 and to encourage the two sides’ businesses to promote investment and cooperation in potential and advantageous areas, said PM Phuc.

The Government chief urged the two countries’ ministries and agencies to sign new agreements, strengthen economic connections, accelerate the construction of coastal transport routes linking Viet Nam, Cambodia and Thai Lan, open bus lines connecting Viet Nam, Thai Lan and Laos, and implement agreements on labor cooperation.

The Vietnamese PM asked Thailand to advocate and promote ASEAN cooperation to ensure the bloc’s common position on the East Sea issue and beef up conclusion of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

He also thanked the Thai side for monitoring and increasing the water resource to the Lower Mekong River to help Viet Nam overcome consequences of droughts and sea-water intrusion while asking the two sides to enhance cooperation in sustainable use, management and exploitation of the water resource.

For his side, FM Don Pramudwinai confirmed that the Thai Government commits to creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses, adding that Thailand will seriously realize inked agreements and seek measures to promote Thai businesses’ investment in Viet Nam.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Mr. Pramudwinai said that all parties must endevour to cooperate to make the East Sea a region of peace, stability and development.

The same day, PM Phuc met with President of the TCC Group Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi.
