Among attendants were also Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Mass Mobilization Commission; Nguyen Van Binh, Politburo member and Head of the PCC’s Economic Commission; and Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam.

Addressing the conference, MOLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung stated that in 2017, the sector completed all the tasks set for the year, especially the targets assigned by the National Assembly, the Government and the PM.

The unemployment rate among people of working age in rural areas was 3.18%; the rate of trained workers was 56%; and the poverty rate under the multidimensional approach dropped 1.51% compared to the end of 2016.

In 2018, the labor, invalids and social affairs sector will exert continuous efforts and take more drastic action, whilst strengthening discipline and renovating the working style in a more professional and effective fashion, Dung said.

According to a report presented by MOLISA Deputy Minister Doan Mau Diep, last year, the ministry took measures to enhance the quality of vocational education, thus step by step meeting the requirements of the labor market and international integration.

Programs, projects and policies on employment were effectively implemented, contributing to creating jobs for over 1.63 million people during the whole year, Diep said, adding that the ministry also implemented well policies concerning wages, social insurance, unemployment insurance and occupational safety and hygiene.

The sector also implemented preferential policies for nearly 1.4 million revolutionary contributors, whilst providing social assistance to more than 2.7 million social policy beneficiaries, with a total funding of approximately VND15 trillion (US$660 million), he stated.
