PM asks for quick treatment for victims of road accident

VGP – The Prime Minister has tasked the Ministry of Health to send doctors to Lao Cai province to provide treatment to victims of a tragic road accident which occurred at 6:55 pm on Monday.

The bus which was carrying 53 passengers from the locality’s popular mountainous resort town of Sapa back to Lao Cai town plunged into abyss after trying to avoid a car going in the opposite direction.

At least 12 people died and 41 others were injured, according to the National Steering Committee for Traffic Safety (NSCTS).

The Prime Minister assigned Minister of Transport to lead a NSCTS delegation to Lao Cai to coordinate with the local authorities to direct the rescue work.

The Ministry of Public Security was asked to investigate the case and strictly punish those who violate transport regulations.

The Government chief also tasked relevant agencies and local authorities to provide support for families of the victims.

More than 16,700 road accidents were recorded in the first eight months of 2014, down 14.3% against the same period last year, official statistics show.

The cost of road accidents was estimated at VND 1,600 billion in the reviewed period, reported the General Statistics Office./.
