PM asks for close supervision of deadly storm

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Saturday called for close supervision of typhoon Haiyan which is heading to Viet Nam after sweeping through central Philippines, killing at least 100 people and knocking out electricity and communications there.

The Government chief also warned that the super typhoon may change its direction, thus Northern provinces need to get ready.

Provinces from Binh Thuan to Quang Ninh must call back all fishing boats and no fishermen are allowed to stay on board.

PM Dung asked coastal localities to prune off branches, protect establishments, and especially evacuate residents in vulnerable areas to safe places.

Earlier on Friday, PM Dung tasked Deputy PMs Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Hoang Trung Hai to arrive in the central region to direct necessary preparations.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has dispatched delegations to localities to assist them in protecting dykes, dams and fishing boats.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent the diplomatic notes to the Embassies of China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnamese Embassies at foreign countries, asking them to help Vietnamese fishermen find shelter./.
