PM approves planning task for national power development

VGP – The Prime Minister has recently approved the task of making the national power development plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

Accordingly, the plan will focus on developing power sources and transmission grids at voltages of 220kV or above on Vietnamese territory during 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045, including programmes of connectivity with the power grids of neighboring countries.

The purposes of power development planning are to forecast the demand for power consumption between 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045, while studyingthe development plans of power sources and grids and selecting those that have good economic-technical norms andhigh feasibility, and ensure the continuous and safe supply of power for socio-economic development, national security and defense.

The planning work also aims to assess the environmental impacts and prepare a strategic environmental report in power development, in addition to studying and proposing solutions concerning mechanisms and policies for the power industry and the organization of the implementation of the plan, ensuring the sustainable development of the power sector.

The planning principles include ensuring the balanced development between regions as well as between power sources and loads; prioritizing the reasonable development of power sources using renewable energy; using electricity in an economical and efficient manner; developing modern smart power grids and the connected grids with neighboring countries; developing the power market and encouraging all economic sectors to invest in power development; and developing powerin adaptation to climate change, ensuring sustainable development and accordance with the national strategy on green growth./.
