PM approves adjustments to Da Nang city development master plan

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has signed Decision No. 393 approving adjustments to the Da Nang city socio-economic development master plan to 2020, with a vision to 2030, targeting to develop Da Nang into an ecological, modern, smart and worth-living city.

Da Nang city development master plan

Accordingly, Da Nang will strive to achieve an annual economic growth rate of 12% during the period of 2021-2030, with the service sector accounting for 67-68% in the economic structure, industry and construction taking up 31-32% and agriculture occupying only 1%.

The city’s population is forecast to reach 2.5 million, with the official population at 1.5 million (excluding walk-in guests).

The employment growth rate is targeted to increase by 5-5.5% per year, with the rate of trained workers reaching over 70% by 2030.

The city also eyes a 100% rate in collecting and disposing solid waste, and an 80% rate in collecting and treating waste water to meet standards before being discharged into the environment. The coverage of urban green space is hoped to reach 6-8 square meters per capita, in addition to a forest cover of 45% and 100% residents using hygienic water.

The adjusted plan also sets out the development orientations for sectors and fields such as services, industry-construction, agriculture and urban infrastructure development, as well as social issues.

In particular, regarding services, Da Nang will develop tourism services associated with resort real estate, including studying investment planning for the construction of Da Nang Bay with unique architecture and services to create a highlight for the city, and the development of seaports and airports associated with logistics services.

Four focuses in Da Nang’s tourism investment include: 1- Developing Son Tra into a high-class eco-tourism site, associating tourism with nature and biodiversity conservation; 2- Developing Da Nang Bay into a “maritime city” with unique features, creating an architectural and service highlight for the city; 3- Developing the downtown area, shopping street and traditional restaurant; 4- Promoting recreation projects, peripheral tourist sites and regional links.

In addition, the city will maintain the harmonious development of areas, such as trade, finance-banking, real estate, and information and communication, to meet the diverse needs in business production and social life, while improving the quality of services and products in service of tourism.

Accelerating the development of e-industrial parks

Regarding industry-construction, Da Nang will focus on industrial development planning, preventing conflicts between the industrial development and tourism goals. At the same time, the city will continue to review and apply more facilitative policy mechanisms to further attract investment, especially FDI projects from transnational and multinational corporations in the world’s top 500.

In terms of agriculture, Da Nang will establish high-tech and clean agriculture zones to create clean and environmentally friendly products. It is expected that in the period of 2021-2030, the city’s agricultural growth rate will reach 2.2%, with the sector to account for about 1% of the local gross regional domestic product (GRDP) structure by 20
