PM agrees to convert Cà Mau into a southern sea-borne economic hub

VGP – An overall plan for socio-economic development of Cà Mau Province by 2020 was signed by the PM. Accordingly, Cà Mau City will be turned into an urban center of the province and the Cà Mau Peninsula, functioning as a sea-borne economic hub in the western part of South Việt Nam.

December 16, 2008 7:00 AM GMT+7

Cà Mau Cape will be shifted to an economic and tourist center in the Mekong Delta

By 2020, the local per capita income will hit around US $3,000. Agriculture, industry and services will respectively make up 19.6%, 43.5%, and 36.9% of the province’s economic structure. Export turnover is expected to reach US $1.8-2 billion annually.

Agro-fishery and forestry will be promoted in a sustainable way to provide adequate materials for export-oriented processing industry.

To put this into reality, the province has planned to restore, protect and develop mangrove forests, especially in the Mũi Cà Mau and U Minh Hạ National Parks.

Khánh An and Hòa Trung industrial parks will be built.

Tourism is a priority of the province’s development, especially eco-tourism.

By 2020, the ratio of urban and rural populations in Cà Mau will be 40% and 60%. The province sets the target to complete secondary educational universalization. Trained workers will account for 60% of the population.

In implementing national programs on health, the province will build and upgrade its hospitals and try to have six doctors and 22 patient beds per 10,000 people by 2020.

The plan also emphasizes the necessity to develop transport infrastructure, focusing on upgrading seaports, estuaries and airports to facilitate tourism, petroleum services and marine economic activities.
