VNGOVNet – The PM approved on March 19 the basic contents of the Overall and Comprehensive Plan on the Development of the Waterway Transport in the Mekong Delta to 2010 and Orientations to 2020.

March 20, 2007 8:17 AM GMT+7

The PM assigned the Ministry of Transport to function as the main implementer, under the collaboration with the relevant agencies and local authorities, in putting the Plan into reality.

A focal system of seaports will be built in Cần Thơ. The total investment of the Plan can reach VND 5,766 billion, including VND 3,148.7 billion for building the passages for big vessels in the Hậu River.

The Plan will be carried out in 13 Mekong Deltat Provinces to develop a network of transport routes within the region and connected to other regions in the country and to the world. When the Plan is implemented, high-tonnage ships can enter Vietnam to directly load local exports.
