The Government chief made the statement at the meeting between central and local governments leaders on Friday to discuss ways to realize the National Assembly’s Resolution on socio-economic development tasks and State budget plan for 2012.

The decision was made in response to the current pressing problems like high inflation and interest rates and unstable macro-economy.

If drastic measures are not taken, high inflation is inevitable, PM Dũng stressed. He pressed the the ministries, agencies and localities to keep close watch on the market.

Drastic solutions must also be developed to control trade deficit under 10% through accelerating exports while reducing import of non-essential commodities.

PM Dũng asked for maintaining the exchange rate and lowering interest rates in accordance with the shrinkage of inflation.

Besides, economic restructuring, focusing on public investment, State-owned enterprises, and commercial banks, needs to be proceeded effectively.

In addition, the PM urged ministries, agencies and localities pay more attention to guaranteeing social security and social welfare, poverty reduction; pushing up the application of science and technology and administrative reforms; taking measures on anti-corruption and reducing traffic accidents.
