At the reception, the PM welcomed the Australian PM to attend the APEC High-Level Week 2017, expressing his thanks to the Australian PM’s invitation to him to join the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in 2018 which helps strengthen the cooperation between ASEAN and Australia in general and between Viet Nam and Australia in particular, contributing to enhancing peace, stability and cooperation in the region.

He asserted that Viet Nam wants to bring the two nations’ relationship to a higher level, proposing the two sides deepen the economic relations.

He spoke highly of Australia’s Official Development Assistance for Viet Nam in economic development and poverty reduction.

The PM expected that the Australian businesses to pour more investment in Viet Nam in high-tech agriculture, infrastructure, information technology and education to make Australia one of the largest investors in Viet Nam.

He suggested Australia facilitate more than 30,000 Vietnamese students studying in Australia and welcomed the bilateral vacation-labor program that was launched on March 1, 2017, expecting Australia to create favorable conditions to increase the number of Vietnamese laborers to Australia.

Viet Nam applauds the crucial role of Australia in the region and the world, especially Australia’s strong declarations to support Viet Nam's and ASEAN’s standpoint on the East Sea issue, including respecting the international regulations, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

Ms. Frances Adamson affirmed that the two nations share strategic benefits in the region, open commercial environment and joint benefits on ASEAN issues as well as the nation’s honor to become the host of ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in 2018.

Australia hopes to upgrade the two countries’ relationship to a higher level, creating forces to promote the two sides’ cooperative area, she added.

She handed over a letter from the Australian PM to PM Phuc.
