PM Phuc welcomes Australian FM Bishop

VGP - PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly valued the outcomes of the first ministerial meeting between Viet Nam and Australia after the two countries established strategic partnership last March.

The Government chief made the statement during his reception for Australian FM Julie Bishop who is on a visit to Viet Nam.

The meeting, co-chaired by Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh and Ms. Julie Bishop, was an important step to concretize the strategic partnership and took place right after the Viet Nam visit by Australian Governor-General, demonstrating the depth and trust of the bilateral ties, noted PM Phuc.

PM Phuc also welcomed FM Bishop to the opening ceremony of the Cao Lanh bridge in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on Sunday. The bridge, partly financed by the Australian Government, is the symbol of the two countries’ cooperative ties.

He extended sincere thanks to the Government and people of Australia for financing the Cao Lanh bridge, saying Vietnamese people always expect to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Australia across fields.

Australian FM Bishop expressed her pleasure to visit Viet Nam on the occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and after the two countries elevated the relationship to strategic level.

She emphasized that accelerated concretization of the contents of  the two countries’ strategic partnership would help further deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Australia wishes to boost cooperation with Viet Nam in such fields like science and technology, innovation, finance among others, Ms. Bishop said.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Ms. Bishop reaffirmed her country’s consistent position as stated in the recent ASEAN-Australia Statement.

Meanwhile, PM Phuc expects Australia will continue advocating Viet Nam’s position of building the East Sea into a region of peace and friendship on the basis of respecting international law./.
