PM Phuc to attend 34th ASEAN Summit, G20 Summit, visit Japan

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand from June 22-23 at the invitation of Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan-ocha, according to Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Under the theme “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”, the Summit  will focus on discussing ways to further consolidate ASEAN solidarity and enhance the ASEAN community amid changing world, Hang said.

The regional leaders will also discuss on relations between ASEAN and its dialogue partners and regional and international issues of shared concerns.

On the sidelines of the summit, Phuc will have bilateral meetings with ASEAN leaders, Hang added.

She also informed that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend the G20 Summit and visit Japan from June 27 to July 1 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

This will be the 4th time in 10 years, Viet Nam has been invited to attend the group’s summit, reflecting the Southeast Asian country’s global prestige and position.

Phuc is expected to deliver remarks at the plenary session of the G20 Summit and have bilateral meetings with leaders of the G20 countries, Hang said.

Meanwhile, Phuc’s visit to Japan aims to foster the strategic partnership and coordination between the two countries at regional and international forums, according to Hang./.
