PM Phuc meets Chinese, Norwegian counterparts in Brussels

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc had bilateral meetings with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Norwegian PM Erna Solberg on the sidelines of the 12th ASEM Summit in Brussels on Thursday.

PM Phuc highly valued the recent progresses in the Viet Nam-China relations and China’s willing to boost the bilateral cooperation over the past time.

Both sides should continue regular exchange of high-level visits and contacts, urge their ministries, agencies and localities to actively deploy measures to accelerate the two-way trade in a balanced and sustainable manner through further facilitating Viet Nam’s exports, especially agricultural products to China, PM Phuc suggested.

He also asked the two countries to coordinate in implementing their joint projects with time and quality ensured.

The Vietnamese Government chief affirmed Viet Nam stands ready to create favorable conditions for Chinese investors to conduct high-tech and environmentally friendly projects in the Southeast Asian country.

The two countries should also step up cooperation in other sectors like transport, agriculture, environment, science and technology, and finance.

Regarding maritime issue, PM Phuc stressed both sides need to control differences, maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, strictly implement the common perceptions reached by their high-ranking leaders and the Viet Nam-China agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues, address disputes via peaceful measures in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and respect the legitimate rights and interests of each side.

Premier Li was glad to meet PM Phuc again, asserting the Party, Government and people of China attach importance to fostering the friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Viet Nam.

He suggested both sides should well control situation and satisfactorily handle differences to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, contributing to the stable and sustainable development of the Viet Nam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

PM Phuc took the occasion to invite Premier Li to visit Viet Nam at his convenient time and the latter gladly accepted the invitation.

Meanwhile, Norwegian PM Erna Solberg spoke highly of Viet Nam’s achievements, especially economic growth, education and training, sustainable development, and preservation of the nation’s cultural values.

Reiterating Norway is an important partner of Viet Nam, PM Phuc called on Norwegian investors to accelerate investment in the Southeast Asian country.

He asked the Norwegian side to continue assistance to help Viet Nam realize the United Nations sustainable development goals, particularly goals related to healthcare, education, water supply and environment.

The two PMs vowed to enhance cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral aspects. Norway pledged to support Viet Nam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure and welcomed Viet Nam to join peacekeeping operations in South Sudan.

PM Erna Solberg also committed to coordinating with Viet Nam for early signing and ratification of the Viet Nam-EU free trade agreement that was adopted by the European Commission on October 17, considering it as a bridge for the two countries to strengthen cooperation between Southeast Asia and Europe.

The two PMs underlined the significance of maintaining peace, stability and cooperation across regions and the globe on the basis of international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations in order to achieve sustainable development./.
