PM Phuc leaves for official visit to Romania

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will leave Ha Noi on Saturday for official visit to Romania from April 14-16 at the invitation of Romanian counterpart Viorica Dancila.

April 13, 2019 1:29 PM GMT+7

The visit aims to further strengthen traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Romania across fields like politics-diplomacy, trade and investment, education and training, security and defense, labor, agriculture, science and technology, culture, and local-to-local and international cooperation.

The visit also aims to seek support from Romania for accelerating the signing and ratification of the free trade agreement between Viet Nam and the European Union.

Romania is one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam and the European country has offered valuable assistance to Viet Nam during the past struggle for national independence and national construction cause.

Since 1990s, the two countries have signed a number of documents to create legal framework for advancing bilateral ties in the new stage of bilateral cooperation.

Both sides have exchanged a number of high-level delegations, including Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh’s first official visit to Romania in July last year.

According to statistics, the two-way trade kept rising since 2009 after the two countries signed an economic cooperation agreement and reached US$ 217 million in 2017.

From 1992, Romania started to grant scholars to Vietnamese students and in 1995, the two countries inked an agreement on cultural, scientific, education and training cooperation under which the European countries offers 10 scholarships annually.

During his visit, PM Phuc is expected to hold talks with Romanian counterpart Viorica Dancila, met with senior Romanian officials and attend Viet Nam-Romania business forum among other activities.
