VGP - Despite major trends for peace, cooperation and development, the world is still facing numerous challenges and unpredictable and complicated changes, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said.

October 16, 2014 2:29 PM GMT+7

PM Dung made the statement delivering a speech at Koerber Institute in Germany on October 15.

He mentioned the situation of the Asia-Pacific region with emerging economies and hot spots, saying that if the region’s peace, security and development is undermined, the region and the  world at large will face negative and incalculable consequences.

The challenges required responsibility, cooperation and huge efforts of each nation, the region and the world, PM Dung added.

He urged countries to enhance friendship, boost cooperation mechanisms, build trust and resolve disputes via peaceful means in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

He reiterated Viet Nam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization, without partnering with any countries to counter another  while supporting powers’ policies in Asia-Pacific if they respect international law and regional institutions and stay away from infringing upon regional countries’ independence and sovereignty.

PM Dung stated that peace, stability and maritime and aviation security, safety and freedom in the East Sea are common interests of all countries in and outside the region. The interests are merely ensured when all countries, especially countries claiming sovereignty in the East Sea, follow strictly international law, restrain without taking unilateral actions to make the situation more complicated, using or threatening use of force.

Viet Nam always persistently advocates the resolution of disputes through peaceful means in respect for international law and regional code of conduct while resolutely protecting the nation’s sacred territorial sovereignty in accordance with international law, PM Dung said.

He expressed his support to a strong Germany, pinning hope on its role to take the European economy out of crisis and depression and raises an important voice in significant political, security and peace keeping issues in Europe and the world as well.

PM Dung emphasised on the strategic cooperation between Asia and Europe and the world, which would be discussed at the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting, saying that ASEAN-EU cooperation is momentous in the two continents’ relations.
