Government chief Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made the statement on June 7 in Hồ Chí Minh City while hosting a reception to WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy who is present in Việt Nam for the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia.

Mr. Pascal Lamy showed his impression on the socio-economic achievements of Việt Nam, one of the countries succeeded in surmounting the negative impacts of the global economic recession.

According to the WTO Director-General, over the last three years, Việt Nam has successfully opened up its domestic markets. WTO’s experts held that any country fully abiding by their commitments to integration will swiftly respond to outside influences, assessed Mr. Pascal Lamy.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng took this occasion to call upon the WTO to continue its support for Việt Nam in such areas as technical assistance and training human resources.

Over the last three years, while realizing its pledges with the WTO, Việt Nam has faced with numerous challenges like poor competitiveness and unfair trade barriers. Thus, the country expects the Organization to pursue a process of more equal trade liberalization globally.

In this spirit, Mr. Dũng recommended that the WTO early concludes the Doha Round of talks and regards this as one of the top solutions to assist developing countries in acquiring equal voices at international arena on trade issues.
