PM: All resources mobilized for sustainable development of Mekong Delta

VGP – The Government and the PM will work to mobilize the participation of all people, businesses and international partners to realize initiatives and measures for the Mekong Delta sustainable development.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made that statement at the conference on sustainable and climate-resilient development of the Mekong Delta in the southern province of Can Tho on September 27.

Speaking at the event, the PM expressed his thanks to organizations, individuals and leaders from foreign and domestic ministries, agencies and professionals, especially foreign scholars attending the meeting.   

The PM asked delegates to identify challenges the Mekong Delta is facing and overcoming in the future. 

He required setting forth measures on shifting the development model, especially related to arranging and planning of territorial space for eco-economic sub-zones such as saltwater, fresh water, blackish water, transiting production and labor mechanisms, infrastructure, investment orientation, ensuring the overall development and connectivity in the whole region, linking with Ho Chi Minh City and the southern key economic region, preserving the basic values ​​and core values ​​of the Mekong Delta region.

The PM proposed identifying urgent, long-term and strategic solutions, programs, plans and specific priorities suitable with each period. 

It is necessary to complete mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in mobilizing and using effectively resources, especially land, tax, support for vocational training, human resources development, market development, encouragement of the participation of people and businesses. 

The Government chief suggested mobilizing the effective participation of international partners, especially the enhancement of cooperation in the Greater Mekong Sub-region and the implementation of the United Nations sustainable development goals, the Paris Agreement and measures to take advantages of achievements of the digital revolution and the fourth industrial revolution in applying the transit model for the Mekong Delta region. 

He expected that the coordination mechanism in realizing, following, supervising and evaluating must be effective to help the Government and the PM to monitor the implementation process of set tasks and measures. 

He expressed his hope that delegates will give comments on issues proposed by the Government and Ministers and seek best solutions.
