PATA: VN overcomes Indonesia in arrivals ranking in ASEAN

VGP – As of the second quarter of 2019, Viet Nam has been listed among top 10 arrivals ranking in the Asia-Pacific region and ranked fourth in Southeast Asia, after Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, according to the Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA).

The statistics of the PATA are based on the number of foreign visitors to 35 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.  Accordingly, the number of foreign arrivals to the region (excluding China) over the first half of 2019 set a new record of 247 million, a year-on-year increase of 6%. 

Viet Nam’s tourism growth in the first half of 2019 increased by 7.5%, ranking 12th in the Asia-Pacific region and 4th in ASEAN.

The nation overcame Indonesia to hold the fourth position in terms of top arrivals ranking among ASEAN nations in the first half of 2019, welcoming 8.48 million visitors. 

In the first nine months of 2019, as many as 12.9 million foreign visitors travelled to Viet Nam, a year-on-year increase of 10.8%. This is the fourth month and the second successive month of the year that the nation receives more than 1.5 million foreign arrivals.

Viet Nam sets the target of welcoming 18 million foreign visitors this year.
