Over 300 enterprises suspend operation due to COVID-19 outbreak
VGP – Up to 322 enterprises temporally suspended operation and 553 others downsized business operations in Viet Nam due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA) has reported.

As of February 12, of 180,000 operating enterprises in 30 localities, 322 announced their temporary suspension of operation and 553 others reduced production and business scales.
Meanwhile, of 5,000 collectives, 25 suspended operation and five others narrowed down business activities.
The report also collected the number of affected laborers in 22 out of 63 localities. Accordingly, 9,000 employees said that they were affected including 3,200 in agro-forestry-fishery sector, 2,200 in water supply and sewage treatment, and 1,100 others in the transport sector.
The report added that over 1,000 laborers (in 22 out of 63 localities) in restaurant and accommodation fields were affected by COVID-19.
However, MOLISA Minister DaoNgoc Dung said that despite the complicated disease, the labor market in the post-Tet period was positive. Generally, 98% of enterprises resumed operation normally.
He attributed good social welfare policies and social healthcare insurance to the stable employment market./.
