The figure increased by 12.1% against last December. Especially, the number of foreign visitors surged sharply as overseas Vietnamese returned home from Europe and Americas.

In January, over 1 million Asian visitors came to Viet Nam, representing a year-on-year growth of 53.9%. Specifically, the number of Chinese guests picked up 69%; the Republic of Korea 84%; Taiwan 22.9%; Malaysia 35.5%; Thailand 11.3%; Cambodia 36.6%. The number of European visitors saw a year-on-year growth of 22.8%.

The General Department of Tourism reported that since January, 2018, the sector has conducted a string of activities to attract foreign tourists to realize the preset goal of 15-17 million in 2018. Noticeably, Viet Nam participated in the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2018) in Thailand.

Last year, Viet Nam welcomed nearly 13 million foreign guests and served 74 million domestic guests./.
