One sailor contracts COVID-19, patient tally rises to 333

VGP – A sailor returning from Malaysia was confirmed the latest COVID-19 infection case in Viet Nam, raising the country’s patient tally to 333, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control reported Friday afternoon.

The patient is a 37-year-old man residing in Vung Tau city of the Southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. He worked on the Pacific vessel which is bulk carrier operating in Malaysia.

He was quarantined immediately after returning home on May 30 and is being cured at the local hospital.

As of 6pm on June 12, 323 patients were cleared of the virus, accounting for 97% of the patient tally, said the committee.

As many as 5,971 people, who have been in close contact with COVID-19 patients or come from the pandemic-stricken areas are under quarantine in the nation, including 193 at hospitals, 4,971 at centralized quarantine facilities, and 861 at places of residence./.
