VGP – Few people imagined that patient 19, who have in been critically ill at times, has experienced “wonderful recovery” thanks to great efforts of frontline medical workers, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

She was confirmed contracting the virus from her niece (patient 17) on March 6, becoming the only patient with longest treatment period.

Doctors at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi’s Dong Anh District had to put her on a life support machine called Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and dialyze blood.

On May 11, she could eat and wave hands at the doctors.

The other critical one is patient 91 who is being treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Top doctors convened a teleconference on May 10 to discuss lung transplant possibility for him.

Viet Nam has gone 25 days without new community infection of COVID-19, keeping the patient tally unchanged at 288, including 148 imported cases.

Of the total, 249 have been cleared of the virus and exited hospitals./.
