Omani Economic Minister visits VN

VNGOP – At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Macki, Economic Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, paid an official visit to Vietnam on May 16-20, 2007. He was accompanied by Trade and Industry Minister Ali Sultan, some senior officials in the Omani Government, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, Oman Investment Fund and chief executives of some Omani economic groups.

During the visit, the delegation had meetings and talks with leaders of Vietnam's ministries of Finance, Industry, Trade and Foreign Affairs.

The guests highly spoke of achievements gained by Vietnam in the cause of national construction and development. They emphasized that, by becoming a full WTO member, Vietnam was now a potential market and an attractive partner for the countries in the Gulf of Persia in general and Oman in particular.

The Omani delegation expressed their desire to seek for opportunities of cooperation and investment with Vietnam in finance, banking, oil and gas, thermoelectricity, resort building. Omani investors are willing to provide 100% capital or cooperate with Vietnamese partners to realize the projects in these fields. Oman is also ready to receive Vietnamese laborers.

The delegation signed a Memorandum of Understanding on oil and gas cooperation with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam).
