Nguyễn Minh Triết re-elected to be State President

VNGOP – The 12th National Assembly in the morning of July 24 elected Mr. Nguyễn Minh Triết to be the State President of Việt Nam.

In the morning seating, NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng reported the NA discussion in group on personnel for the post of State President.

The NA deputies approved the list of candidates and cast their votes for the post of State President. Mr. Nguyễn Minh Triết was reelected with 98.78 percent of votes.

Addressing the NA, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết pledged to do his best to serve the country and people, execute all obligations and rights of the State President as stipulated in the Constitution and laws. "I promise to put our Action Program into reality", emphasized the State President.

President Nguyễn Minh Triết recommended Nguyễn Thị Doan, Standing Deputy Chairwoman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Inspection as candidate for the post of Vice State President; Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, the PM in office, for the post of PM; Deputy Minister of Public Security Trương Hòa Bình to the post of Chief Judge of the People’s Supreme Court; and Vice Head of the People’s Supreme Procuracy Trần Quốc Vượng to the post of Head.

Brief biography of State President Nguyễn Minh Triết

- Born on October 8, 1942.

- Native land: Phú An Commune, Bến Cát District, Bình Dương Province
- Admitted to the Communist Party of Việt Nam on March 30, 1965.

- Education: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
Summary of his career:

- 1960 to November 1963: Student majoring in Mathematics at university, took part in the Sài Gòn Students' Movement, assumed tasks at the revolutionary base in charge of the Sài Gòn-Gia Định area.

- December 1963 to 1973: Cadre of the Central Committee of the People's Revolutionary Youth Union and the Inspection Section of the Party Central Committee's Department for South Việt Nam , and Secretary of the Agency's Youth Union, and battlefield in Mỹ Tho province.

- 1974 to August 1979: Deputy Director of the General Affairs Department of the Youth Union , Deputy Chief of the Youth Union Central Committee's Board for Voluntary Young People.

- September 1979 to July 1981: Trainee at the High-level Nguyễn Ái Quốc Party School.

- July 1981 to December 1987: Head of the Youth Union Central Committee's Board for Voluntary Young People, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Youth Union Central Committee in Hồ Chí Minh City, member of the Youth Union Central Committee's Executive Board, Secretary of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, Deputy President and General Secretary of the Việt Nam Youth Union.
