Nghi Sơn Economic Zone (Thanh Hóa) to become an important service-tourism-industrial urban area

VNGOVNet – This is mentioned in Decision 236/QĐ-TTg signed by the PM on February 14 approving the Overall Planning Scheme on Nghi Sơn Economic Zone in Thanh Hóa Province to 2025.

February 17, 2007 10:27 AM GMT+7

According to the Decision, the Nghi Sơn Economic Zone covers 12 communes in Tĩnh Gia District, Thanh Hóa Province, with a total area of natural land of over 18,000 ha. This will be a collective economic zone of many sectors and fields, including industry, trade, services, tourism, agro-forestry and fishery, with the main industries (oil refinery, petrochemistry and chemistry), large-scale industries (steel rolling, mechanics, automobile manufacturing, ship building and repair, electrics, building materials, consumer goods, processing, export), and other industries and services in the Nghi Sơn deep-water port. The Zone has its own boundary and regulations. Its population is estimated to be about 140,000 people in 2015 and 200,000 people in 2025.

In this economic zone, there are three functional quarters: a 500-ha tariff-free quarter, a 18,000-ha customs quarter (including industrial parks, tourist areas, ecological and green areas and other functional areas) and focal technical infrastructure. It was also stated clearly in the Decision that modern technical infrastructure must be designed and built to meet the Zone’s development requirements and maintain the landscape, safety and environmental hygiene. The system of specialized ports (for cement factory and oil refinery), collective harbors and fishing ports are designed in line with the planning scheme of the Ministry of Transport. A civil airport will be also built in the south area of Thanh Hóa Province.

The PM assigned the management board of the Nghi Sơn Economic Zone and the Thanh Hóa People’s Committee to draft an overall plan for the Nghi Sơn Economic Zone up to 2025, set up and issue the construction management statutes under the approved plan.
