New overall planning scheme for socio-economic development to 2020 in six major economic zones

VNGOP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng authorized on July 17 the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) to inform the results of checking and readjusting the overall planning scheme for socio-economic development to 2010, so that relevant ministries, sectors and local authorities can review the previous realization of the scheme and design the next-stage plan.

July 19, 2007 7:15 AM GMT+7

The PM entrusted the MPI to collaborate with relevant ministries, sectors and local authorities to set up the country's development strategy to 2020 and a new overall planning scheme for socio-economic development to 2020 in six major economic zones.

Since the third quarter of 2007, the MPI should instruct ministries and sectors in making planning schemes for each sector and primary product (excluding construction and land use planning schemes) and the local authorities to make overall plans for socio-economic development to 2020. All new planning schemes must be realized since 2008.

The Ministry of Education and Training and the MPI should direct some training establishments  to start training courses on researching and setting up strategies, planning schemes and overall plans for socio-economic development in line with Việt Nam's specific conditions and international economic integration.

The MPI was assigned to design annual and five-year training plans in this field, which must be submitted to the PM for approval.

The Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with ministries, sectors and provincial-level People's Committees, checks, revises and supplements legal documents on planning work in order to reduce overlapping and improper details and provide a consistent foundation for the planning work throughout the country.

Six major economic zones include: Northern mountains and midlands, Red River Delta and northern Central Việt Nam, Central coast, Central Highlands, Eastern South Việt Nam, and Mekong Delta.
