New Secretary of MIC Party Committee named

VGP – The Secretariat of the Party Central Committee (PCC) has assigned Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman cum General Director of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group to be the new Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) for the 2016-2021 term.

Hung, a PCC member, was born in 1962 in the Northern province of Phu Tho, replacing his predecessor Truong Minh Tuan who has been relieved from position due to violations at the ministry during the 2011-2016 term.

Hung was appointed as Chairman cum General Director of the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group on June 14, 2018. He has been working as the General Director of the Group since March 1, 2014.

He is an Australian Business Alumni with a master’s degree in telecommunications from the University of Sydney. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the National Economics University in Ha Noi.

Hung is considered the captain of Viettel, having found success in the strategy of bringing telecommunication services to rural areas, popularizing mobile phones in the past and currently developing the defense industry.

Viettel has deployed telecom infrastructure in 10 countries to serve a customer base that includes more than 90 million people around the world across Asia, Africa and America, according to a post on the Group's website.

It is one of the fastest growing operator in the world. The Group's network is featured with 99,500 GSM Stations (2G, 3G and 4G ) and over 365,000 km of fiber optical cable./.
