Nearly 8,000 people under medical surveillance to prevent COVID-19 transmission

VGP – Nearly 8,000 people who have been in close contact with COVID-19 patients or repatriated from the pandemic-stricken areas are under medical surveillance, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said Sunday afternoon.

May 31, 2020 7:02 PM GMT+7

The figure includes 69 at hospitals, 6,870 at centralized quarantine facilities, and 931 at places of residences.

The committee also said Viet Nam has gone 45 days without new community infection of COVID-19 as of 6 pm the same day, keeping the country’s patient tally unchanged at 328, including 188 imported cases.

As many as 279 patients have been cleared of the virus, accounting for 85% while the current active cases are beeing treated at eight central and provincial-level hospitals nationwide.

The 43-year-old British patient numbered 91, who is the most critical case in Viet Nam, is getting better as he could turn his head and his infection rate has fell. However, he still remains weak.

Doctors at the Ho Chi Minh City Cho Ray Hospital, where the patient is being treated, have reduced the blood flow through the ECMO from 4.5 liters per minute last Friday to 4 liters and 3.7 liters per minute on May 28 and May 31, respectively.

Patient 91 was admitted to the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases on March 18. After 65-day treatment at the hospital, he was tesed negative for COVID-19 for seven consecutive times and was declared of the virus.

He was transferred to the Cho Ray Hospital on May 22 for further treatment, including a possible lung transplant.

Regarding the lastest COVID-19 patient (number 328), the committee said the one-year-old boy repatriated from Russia on May 13 on flight VN0062 does not have such symptoms like cough or shortness of breath.

He is being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in the northern province of Hai Duong./.
