The Department worked with the National Office on Poverty Reduction to assess the sending of laborers to work in foreign fishing vessels.

The survey covered 20 enterprises which provided fishermen in fishing vessels of Taiwan and the RoK.

Viet Nam started sending sailors to work for foreign fishing vessels in 1992. So far, 40 enterprises are engaging in supplying Vietnamese sailors for foreign vessels.

Over the past three years, 4,000 Vietnamese sailors were yearly sent to work abroad including 1,000 from extremely difficult communes.

So far, nearly 12,000 Vietnamese sailors have worked in foreign fishing vessels including 9,400 in Korean vessels; 2,300 in Taiwan vessels.

In addition, Vietnamese guest workers mainly worked at aquatic cultivation sites and fishing vessels in the RoK and Taiwan. Most of them came from Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Tri provinces.

Vietnamese sailors are hard-working and quickly mastermind fishing techniques.

The Overseas Labor Management Department proposed labor exporters and their partners closely work with the local authorities to better labor export efficiency.

Especially, the local authorities were asked to disseminate information, subsidy programs, obligations, and rights for Vietnamese sailors./.
