Accurate statistics on poor households will serve for poverty reduction in Việt Nam

According to the PM’s Instruction 1752/CT-TTg, the accurate and full information of poor households and poverty rates in each locality in the country is expected to be the significant ground for the building and implementation of socio-economic development policies.

The Government chief requested his inferiors to conduct the census in every hamlet, village and household in order to obtain accurate data.

According to the Instruction, the census will be carried out once a year on October 1.

The document also stipulates that poor households will be identified in accordance with the poverty benchmark applied in the period of 2011-2015.

The current poverty benchmarks are VND 400,000 (US $22) in monthly per capita income in rural areas and VND 500,000 (US $27) in urban areas.

It is reported that in the past five years, Việt Nam has slashed down the poverty rate from 20% in 2006 to around 9.45% in 2010./.
