National demographic database to be established

VPG – A national demographic database will be set up and supervised by the Ministry of Public Security and local public security forces.

Under the newly-approved Decree 90/2010/NĐ-CP, dated on August 18, the establishment of a national population database targets to provide state competent agencies and individuals with accurate and updated demographic information which can serve socio-economic development requirements. 

Personal information will be collected and updated, including names, photo, ID number, place of birth, gender, nationality, passport number, heath insurance card number, tax number, education background, occupation, working places and address.

The Ministry of Public Security will work with relevant agencies to amend and supplement the collected data.

State agencies, socio-political organizations, and individuals will be able to access to the database on legitimate purposes. 

The decree will come into effect since January 1, 2011./.
