National census on rural areas, agriculture and aquaculture to be done in

VGP – The Government will conduct a national census on rural areas, agriculture, and aquaculture on July 1-30, 2011.

The census aims to collect basic information on rural areas, agriculture and aquaculture in order to map out specific plans and policies for socio-economic development. 

The Government chief instructed his inferiors to focus on three aspects:

(1) Real situations of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture: number of producers, labor force and structure, production scale and capacity, application of scientific and technical advances in production; access to information; impacts on environment; development of farm economy; and women’s role.

(2) Changes of economic structure and infrastructure conditions in rural areas.

(3) Living conditions of rural residents, especially capital accumulation and mobilization, assess to credits, and vocational training.  

It is planned that the national census is conducted every five years.

The latest census took place in 2006. As of July 1, 2006, Việt Nam had 10.47 million players operating in the areas of agro-forestry and fishery sector which used 22.93 million laborers./.
