National ASEAN 2020 Committee convenes first meeting
VGP – The National ASEAN 2020 Committee convened its first meeting on Monday to discuss on the Committee’s work plan and preparation roadmap for assuming ASEAN Chair in 2020.

The Committee, established on December 14, is responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in directing, coordinating and instructing ministries, agencies and localities on affairs concerning the preparations and fulfillment of Viet Nam role as ASEAN Chair.
The Committee is headed by Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh. Vice Chairmen include Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, and Minister of Labor-Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung.
It consists of five sub-committees responsible for contents, protocol, communications, logistics, health and security.
The ASEAN Secretariat under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves as the standing agency of the Committee.
ASEAN Chairmanship is rotated annually among ten members of ASEAN and Viet Nam hosted the 6th ASEAN Summit in 1998 and was the chair of the bloc in 2010./.
