NA to select State President today
VGP – The National Assembly will vote to select new State President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam this morning.

The outcome will be announced in the afternoon, followed by swearing-in ceremony, live streamed and broadcast on TV.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is the only candidate for the position following the death of former State President Tran Dai Quang.
Earlier this month, the Party Central Committee recommended Party chief Trong to be the next State President at its 8th Plenum.
Mr. Trong, born on April 14, 1944, has been member of the CPVCC in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th tenures and member of the Politburo of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th tenures.
He has served as Chairman of the National Assembly from 2006-2011 and Party General Secretary since 2011./.
