NA elects new Chairman, Vice Chairpersons and Standing Committee members

VNGOP – The 12th National Assembly convened a plenary session on July 23 to vote its Chairman, Vice Chairpersons and members of the Standing Committee.

12th NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng

During the July 21 session, the National Assembly voted on the number of four NA Vice Chairpersons and 18 members of the 12th NA Standing Committee.

In the morning of July 23, the NA deputies approved the list of candidates for NA Chairman, Vice Chairpersons and Standing Committee members. Then, the election was made.

Mr. Nguyễn Phú Trọng, Chairman of the 11th NA, was re-elected to be Chairman of the 12th NA. Four Vice NA Chairpersons included Nguyễn Đức Kiên, Head of the 11th NA Committee for Budget and Economic Affairs; Uông Chu Lưu, Minister of Justice; Tòng Thị Phóng, Head of the Party Central Committee Commission for People's Mobilization; and Huỳnh Ngọc Sơn, Lieutenant-General, Commander of Military Zone V.

In his oath-taking speech, NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng pledged that he and all other NA deputies will do their utmost in order to successfully realize the cause of national renovation, obtaining the goals of rich people, powerful country, and an equal, democratic and civilized society, and deserving to be representatives of the common people.

According to the agenda, the NA deputies will work in group to discuss personnel for the post of State President in the afternoon.

Brief biography of NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng

- Born on April 14, 1944.
- Native land: Đông Hội Commune, Đông Anh District, Hà Nội.
- Education: Professor, PhD (Political Science, majoring in Party building).
- Admitted to the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) on December 19, 1967.

- Politburo member of the CPV Central Committee, Secretary of the National Assembly's Party Organization, Chairman of the National Assembly, and member of the Council for National Defense and Security. Deputy to the 11th and 12th National Assembly.

- 1963-1967: Student at the Literature-Linguistics Faculty of the Hà Nội University.
- December 1967-August 1973: Editor of the Communist Review.
- September 1973 - April 1976: Pursued a Political Economic post-graduate course at the high-level Nguyễn Ái Quốc Party School (now the Hồ Chí Minh National Political Academy).
- May 1976 - August 1980: Editor of the Communist Review, Deputy Secretary of the Party cell.
- September 1980 - August 1981: Learnt the Russian language at the high-level Nguyễn Ái Quốc Party School.
- September 1981 - July 1983: Associate doctor student majoring in historical science (Party building) at the Academy of Social Sciences of the Soviet Union .
